EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- The San Francisco 49ers have obliterated their last two opponents, by a combined score of 79-3.
The New York Giants have noticed, and expressed respect for the Niners on Monday. But they certainly aren’t intimidated entering Sunday's NFC title game rematch in San Francisco.
“You see it,” center and former 49er David Baas said of San Francisco’s recent domination of the Jets and Bills. “We scored 41 points (Sunday) too so ... we are not going to think, whoa, (and) like sit back there and think they’re the almighty. You know what I mean?"
“We are prepared for them,” Baas added. “We know we have a good team too. We know it is going to be a battle and we got to get prepared.”
Of course, Baas isn’t the only one facing his former team in this NFC showdown. The Giants will be reunited with Mario Manningham and Brandon Jacobs.
Prince Amukamara said Manningham is already looking forward to the matchup. “I heard he’s already talking,” Amukamara said. “He was a great player for us when he was here.”
Amukamara was asked where he heard that Manningham was already chirping a bit. “Ah, just from a friend,” Amukamara said, with a laugh. “Just that he’s excited to play us.”
Antrel Rolle said he is ready to bring Jacobs down if the bruising back is active this Sunday. Jacobs has yet to play this season due to injury.
“We put on our pants the same way,” Rolle said, when asked about tackling Jacobs. “B-Jacobs, he’s a homeboy, a very good friend of mine. Is he playing? I don’t know."
“The game has to be played,” Rolle continued. “There are no friends on the football field. You don’t wish injuries upon anyone, especially a former teammate and a friend. But the game has to be played. And I will go in there and attack Brandon as I attack anyone else.”
