EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Hakeem Nicks did some running on the side and looked quick and agile.
Giants coach Tom Coughlin is hopeful the wide receiver will practice sometime this week. Nicks did not practice on Wednesday.
Seeing Nicks move side to side, backpedal and run somewhere between half to three-quarters pace is encouraging and a positive step toward playing against San Francisco on Sunday. If Nicks can practice on Thursday and come out of it with no setback to his knee or surgically repaired foot, the receiver will be on track to returning. He has missed the last three games.
Safety Kenny Phillips (knee), defensive tackle Rocky Bernard (quad) and tight end Martellus Bennett (knee), cornerback Corey Webster (hand/hamstring) and linebacker Chase Blackburn (hip) did not practice. Blackburn is expected to practice on Thursday.
Bennett said he is "planning on playing" despite his hyperextended knee.
"Doing everything we can to get ready for this weekend," Bennett said. "Working with the trainers and doing some things on my own, so the plan is to be out there on Sunday. That's always the plan, but like anything, things don't always go according to plan. Bu we're heading in the right direction."
Running back Andre Brown (concussion) has yet to pass his baseline test.
Coughlin said Hosley was supposed to go through a limited practice. The fact that he was able to go full is a very positive indication for him playing on Sunday. The Giants need Hosley to cover slot receivers with the suspension of Will Hill for the next four games.
