Cruz to honor Sandy Hook victim

ATLANTA -- New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz will wear the name of one of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting victims on his game gloves and cleats against the Atlanta Falcons.

Cruz told told ESPN's Josina Anderson that he will honor 6-year-old Jack Pinto, who was a fan of Cruz. The receiver spoke with Pinto's parents, who told him that they had been contemplating burying their son in a Cruz No. 80 jersey. Cruz had the words "Jack Pinto 'My Hero'" written on his cleats and "Jack Pinto 'This One is 4 U'" on his gloves.

The Giants are all going to wear the initials "SHES" on their helmets for the game. Head coach Tom Coughlin also has "SHES" on his Giants hat.

Coughlin told ESPN's Rachel Nichols that the team had a moment of silence at their meeting on Saturday.

"Our hearts go out to the families," Coughlin told Nichols. "To have this happen, it's almost beyond explanation.

"My only thought there was as a New York Giant family, we should all rise and have a moment of silence recognizing the families of these children, the families of the principal, the people at the school that were killed, just to recognize the fact that our hearts are so saddened by this event. The senseless killing ... it's very difficult to get past the senseless killing of children."
