The NFL confirmed that the New York Giants were in compliance with league rules by placing Victor Cruz on injured reserve recently.
The wide receiver had just suffered a hamstring injury that did not initially appear to be that serious last week. But after kicker Lawrence Tynes sprained his non-kicking ankle on Friday, the team signed kicker Shayne Graham and placed Cruz on season-ending IR.
According to reports by the New York Daily News and Newark Star Ledger, Cruz visited with an independent doctor and it was deemed that his hamstring injury was major enough that it would require six weeks of recovery or longer.
Cruz, who became an instant fan favorite in the preseason with his one-handed catch against the Jets, will have to fight for his job again next offseason.
