Giants bring in LB Brinkley

March, 13, 2013
The Giants might not have a ton of money to spend in free agency, but they are focused on doing what they can to improve their defense.

A source confirmed that the Giants will have Vikings linebacker Jasper Brinkley in for a visit on Wednesday. Sirius' Adam Caplan first reported the visit.

Brinkley, 27, spent his first three NFL seasons in Minnesota, compiling 147 combined tackles and four forced fumbles. He had his best season last year with 99 total tackles and three forced fumbles.

The Giants finished 31st in total defense and 25th against the run last season. They are trying to shore up the defense, as they signed former Eagles defensive tackle Cullen Jenkins to help fill the interior after the team released Chris Canty. The Giants also added cornerback Aaron Ross, who is returning after leaving for Jacksonville last season in free agency.

The Giants have a need at linebacker after releasing Michael Boley in February. Chase Blackburn and Keith Rivers are also free agents.
