EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Shawn Andrews, who reportedly spent part of Thursday in the hospital with a back ailment, was not in the Giants practice facility during the portion of Friday’s session open to the media.

We’re waiting to hear from Tom Coughlin about the Andrews predicament.

Also, CB Aaron Ross wasn’t seen during the portion of practice open to the media. The reason for Ross’ absence is unclear at this point.

Andrews did not practice last week and received an epidural before the Eagles game. He complained of pain on Monday afternoon but said that he didn’t want to have another epidural this week.

If Andrews can’t go on Sunday against Jacksonville, look for Will Beatty to replace him on a Giants offensive line that is without C Shaun O’Hara (foot) and T David Diehl (hamstring/hip).

O’Hara and Diehl were on the sidelines on Friday for the first time this week. O’Hara rode the bike, climbed stairs in the practice facility and went outside to work on snapping.

Diehl ran outside, along with WR Steve Smith (pectoral). WR Hakeem Nicks (lower leg) was not seen at practice during the portion open to the media.

PR/CB Will Blackmon (chest) returned to practice after missing the past two days.

New WR Devin Thomas was also on the field, wearing No. 8. That’s normally a number reserved for quarterbacks, but Thomas will be permitted to wear it because the Giants don’t have any league-mandated wide receiver numbers (10-19, 80-89) available, according to a team official.
