The view from OTA

5/27/2010

Quick observations from Thursday’s OTA:

Your first-team MLB was Jonathan Goff… again. Goff worked with the first team last Friday when the media got to watch and same thing for Thursday. Rookie Phillip Dillard was with the second team. Remember, this is just OTA and we are a long way away from training camp.

With DE Osi Umenyiora sitting out due to a sore hip (injury update is here), Justin Tuck and Mathias Kiwanuka got the work with the first team at DE.

• • •

Backup QB Jim Sorgi started off strong before a tough finish. He connected on two deep passes with WR Steve Smith but he threw a pick-six to DB D.J. Johnson and nearly had another pass intercepted by rookie S Chad Jones.

WR Ramses Barden had the catch of the day with a one-handed snag on the left sideline. WR Domenik Hixon had an impressive leaping and diving catch and WR Derek Hagan had a few catches over the middle.

Head coach Tom Coughlin had two lengthy huddles with his team at the end of practice. Coughlin did not meet with the media – it’s OTA after all – but it appeared he didn’t seem to be pleased.

“He was just talking and giving his message,” quarterback Eli Manning said.
