After saying last Thursday that “there is no chance Plaxico Burress is a New York Giant” once he is released, Brandon Jacobs was hesitant to shut the door on a Plaxico reunion on Monday.
“I mean, I think there’s a chance the Giants, I mean, I know they probably want him back,” Jacobs said in an interview with SiriusXM NFL radio. “But with him having more options to pick from, I don’t know how that’s going to work out.”
Jacobs, who is one of several Giants who want Burress back, said last week that Burress has nothing against the Giants but that he might prefer a fresh start elsewhere like in Philadelphia with Michael Vick, who grew up in Virginia like Burress did.
Jacobs mentioned the Eagles, Rams, Colts and Saints as potential options for his close friend.
As for the Giants, Jacobs believes head coach Tom Coughlin would welcome back Burress, who was reportedly fined numerous times for violating team rules during his Giants tenure.
“No question about it,” Jacobs said. “I do think so. Coach Coughlin wants to win, so he knew what we had was very special before this whole incident happened. The Giants want to win, Coach Coughlin wants to win, we want to win as a team and as an organization so it would be smart to make at least an attempt. But given the fact that he has a lot of other opportunities to play in other cities it may be kind of difficult.”
