At first, Chad Jones couldn't stand without feeling excruciating pain as blood flowed through his surgically-repaired left leg.
Soon, he started walking and then jogging again. Now, a year after escaping a gruesome accident with his life, Jones is running on an anti-gravity treadmill. His leg is still healing and he will need at least one more surgery in the future. But Jones is focused on returning to the football field next year.
Over the past year, many of you have asked for updates on Jones. Here's his recollection of the morning he nearly lost his leg and the grueling road back.
Jones, a former two-sport football and baseball star at LSU, is only thinking about playing football again right now. His goal is to return in 2012. And he says if he can't play safety again, he'd consider a switch to linebacker, but only if he is unable to play the position he loves.
But first, his leg and foot have to heal completely. One thing is certain, Jones has come a long way since the morning he nearly lost his life.
