Intent on upgrading their special teams, the Giants added former Jets punter Steve Weatherford Friday.

Weatherford and his agents tweeted that he has agreed to join the Giants to compete with punter Matt Dodge.

Weatherford punted for 3,581 yards last season and had a net average of 38.1 on 84 punts. Dodge had a very inconsistent season, punting for 3,222 yards and a net average of 34.3 yards on 72 punts. The Giants allowed a league-high two punt returns for touchdowns last season, including the unforgettable DeSean Jackson touchdown in the Giants' collapse to the Eagles last season.
