Sage Rosenfels missed his third straight preseason game with a back injury that resulted from his bout with strep throat.
The backup quarterback said that the severe case of strep throat got into his blood stream and affected his back.
"I guess I got a bacterial infection into my back and it caused it to lock up and have all these muscle issues," Rosenfels said. "Once we got the strep out of my blood with heavy antibiotics for really 10-12 days, the back issue cleared up. I feel healthy as I did on day one of training camp."
Rosenfels said it was smart for the team to keep him out of action on Thursday after he spent two weeks in a hospital bed.
Backup David Carr got the start and he completed 13-of-21 passes for 116 yards but did have one interception. Ryan Perrilloux completed three-of-four passes for 22 yards.
Rosenfels didn’t play after the preseason opener when he completed 13-of-19 passes for 129 yards against Carolina.
The Giants will have cut their roster to 53 on Saturday and it remains to be seen whether they will keep three quarterbacks.
“All I can control is getting ready for Week 1 and I thought I was having a really good camp up to that point and got sick and I can’t control that,” said Rosenfels, who has a good rapport with Eli Manning and also holds for the kicker. “I’m healthy now.”
