The Giants were on the practice field Monday morning for the first time since they cut their roster down to 53 players on Saturday.
Two of the 53 players were missing: defensive end Osi Umenyiora and cornerback Prince Amukamara.
No one expected to see Amukamara, the Giants' first-round draft pick, who suffered a broken left foot in just his second practice with the team. Amukamara had surgery and is likely out several weeks.
Umenyiora had surgery on his right knee on Aug. 19. But as late as last Friday, Giants coach Tom Coughlin sounded like he was holding out hope that Umenyiora would be available for Sunday's season opener in Washington against the Redskins.
The Giants are still on the practice field -- now that we've entered the regular season, reporters are only allowed to watch the beginning portion of practice. More later, after Coughlin speaks with the media.
