Justin Tuck was on the practice field Friday and participated in individual drills during the open portion of practice. He is optimistic about playing on Monday night's game against St. Louis. Maybe more importantly for the Giants, DE Osi Umenyiora (knee) was on the side doing individual drills for the first time this week.

He had arthroscopic surgery on his bothersome left knee on Aug. 19. Reports stated that he's expected to be out four to six weeks, though he is unlikely to play on Monday night.

As for Tuck, he missed the season-opener against Washington last Sunday due to a lingering neck ailment which originally was a stinger suffered in the third preseason game.

Tuck said on Thursday he is still affected by the injury, but would not say specifically how it affects him. He did indicate that he is pain-free.

It is unclear at this point what Tuck's official status is for Monday. The Giants listed him as questionable last Friday and he was ruled out shortly before kickoff.

WR Hakeem Nicks (knee) practiced on Friday, participating in individual and team drills.

Nicks is also optimistic about playing Monday. He said Thursday that the decision will be up to him and it is a matter of how much pain he can play in.

As for Umenyiora, he worked on the side for about 20 minutes on Friday morning, looking uninhibited by his knee injury. He did have the knee iced after drills.

Lastly, Travis Beckum was on the bike during the open portion of practice. He walked onto the field but did not appear to be active. Beckum (hamstring) missed Week 1; his status for Monday is uncertain.
