Giants sign Clayton, Hixon to IR

The Giants have placed Domenik Hixon on injured reserve and signed Michael Clayton, the team announced on Friday morning.

Hixon tore his right ACL for the second consecutive year on Monday night, and will miss the rest of the 2011 season.

Clayton was with the Giants during training camp, but was one of the final cuts as the team trimmed down its roster to 53. He stood out on special teams in camp blocking on kickoff returns in front of Devin Thomas. He was also a regular at Eli Manning's Hoboken workouts in the offseason.

The 28-year-old Clayton played six games for the Giants last season, tallying two receptions for 19 yards.

He had a tremendous rookie season in 2004 for Tampa Bay, snagging 80 balls for 1,193 yards and seven touchdown. However, in six seasons since, Hixon has just three TDs.
