Nicks sits out early portion of practice

September, 29, 2011
Wide receiver Hakeem Nicks sat out the early portion of practice open to the media and was on a stationary bike next to defensive end Justin Tuck.

Nicks’ injury will be updated later when Tom Coughlin meets with the media but the team’s top wide receiver is a new addition to the team’s injury front. Two weeks ago prior to the Rams game, Nicks was nursing a bone bruise and hyper-extended knee. Nicks played last Sunday against the Eagles and practiced on Wednesday. The Giants could be keeping Nicks out for precautionary reasons, we'll find out more later.

Tuck did not practice on Wednesday with a strained groin and pain in his neck and likely will not practice on Thursday. He has said that he will play on Sunday.

Also, long snapper Zak DeOssie and wide receiver Brandon Stokley were not on the field at the start of practice. Stokley suffered a strained quad injury in practice on Wednesday and could very well miss this Sunday's game if not longer. DeOssie’s condition will be updated later.

Rookie linebacker Mark Herzlich and tight end Travis Beckum practiced long snapping in place of DeOssie.

Defensive end Osi Umenyiora and wide receiver Mario Manningham were on the practice field for the second straight day. Both were limited yesterday.

Cornerback Prince Amukamara did not practice during the early portion that was open to the media. The team’s first-round pick continues to recover from a broken foot.
