Prince Amukamara will travel with the Giants to New England. Coaches have yet to decide if the rookie will play.

He thinks he’s ready to go. Safety Deon Grant, however, disagrees.

“He’s looking good. He ain’t ready yet. But he’s looking good,” Grant said on Friday.

Grant believes it will take more time for Amukamara’s foot injury to fully heal. The rookie broke his left foot in his second practice in the preseason.

He has been taking part in team and individual drills since the Giants returned from their bye week last Monday, but never with the first-team defense.

“He’s out there with a lot of confidence but I don’t think he’s ready yet,” Grant said.

Defensive coordinator Perry Fewell said on Thursday that the coaching staff will wait until Saturday to decide on Amukamara’s status.

Tom Coughlin didn’t shed much light on the situation on Friday, other than to say Amukamara will travel with the team to New England.

“He had a good week again,” the coach said. “I’m hoping that he will demonstrate as he goes a long here a little bit more and a little bit more.”

Fewell hinted that, with Amukamara in the fold, it would be easier to use a corner to cover the Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez. Amukamara also would allow Antrel Rolle to give up his nickel corner duties. The former Nebraska star's presence would also bolster a secondary that’s lost Terrell Thomas, Bruce Johnson and Brian Witherspoon to injury.

But Grant doesn’t think any of that will happen on Sunday.

“His foot I don’t is there yet,” said the veteran safety, whose playing time could be affected if Amukamara is active. “He’s looking good and if [his foot was healthy] he’d be out there playing with the first team or the second team or whatever the case may be.”

Amukamara has played on the scout team this week, defending the likes of Mario Manningham and Victor Cruz.

He's ready to face real NFL receivers now.

"I’m really eager to get out there and see what the NFL is like,” he said.
