Safety Kenny Phillips (knee) will return to practice on Wednesday but defensive end Justin Tuck (toe) will sit out.
Phillips missed Sunday’s win over Dallas with a sprained MCL injury. Tuck played and finished the game with a toe injury and underwent an MRI on the toe on Monday.
Head coach Tom Coughlin said that while Tuck will not practice on Wednesday, he is hopeful that his defensive captain will practice this week.
“It is not going to be anything… it is discomfort, it is sore, it is an issue but hopefully it is going to get under control,” Coughlin said of Tuck’s toe.
Defensive end Osi Umenyiora will not practice and is expected to miss a third straight game with an ankle injury. Center David Baas, who missed the last two games, will not practice. However, the center is listed on the pre-practice injury report with a neck issue. His injury before had been listed as neck/headaches.
Coughlin had said last week that he believed the team had identified the problem with Baas’ headaches.
“I think he is making progress,” Coughlin said. “I really do.”
The offensive line has played better in the last two weeks with Kevin Boothe at center and Mitch Petrus at left guard.
Coughlin was asked if he would consider keeping the offensive line the same when Baas is healthy.
“What we want to do is let’s get him back, let’s get them all back,” Coughlin said. “He hasn’t practiced in a couple of weeks. We need to get him back on the practice field and back in the groove and then we can make those calls.”
