RG3 looks forward to first NFC East game

By Ian Begley

Robert Griffin III will get his first taste of a the storied Giants-Redskins rivalry on Sunday.

But the rookie quarterback insists it's no big deal.

"I am looking forward to having my first opportunity, but I don't look at it as a statement game or anything like that," Griffin said Wednesday. "It's another football game against another good football team in the NFL. From that aspect, I'm just looking to do whatever the coaches ask me to do and help my teammates push towards another victory.

"It's not going to be easy, we know that, but that's why we play. We play to compete, we play to win and you strap it up every Sunday because you know you have that chance to win."

More often than not, Griffin's given the Redskins a chance to win through his first six weeks in the NFL.

He already has six rushing touchdowns, a single-season franchise record for a QB. He had 13 rushes for 138 yards and two touchdowns last week against the Vikings, including a 78-yard run that sealed the game. On the season, Griffin has run for 379 yards on 55 attempts.

He is angling for Cam Newton's rookie QB record of 706 rushing yards and, oh by the way, he has completed 70 percent of his passes.

But Griffin knows things will not be as easy against the Giants' front seven.

"They've got a lot of talent on that defense. It starts up front with them," Griffin said. "They're talented all the way through to the back end. The one thing we need to do is make sure that we're on point with what we're trying to do, go out there and execute and just know that it's going to be a heated game, very competitive.

"This is a divisional game, so I'm looking forward to my first taste of divisional action."

The Giants enter Sunday at 0-2 in the NFC East. If RG3 has his way, they'll be 0-3 by late Sunday afternoon.
