Canty on return: 'My body feels great'

By Adena Andrews

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Defensive tackle Chris Canty, who spent the first six weeks of the season on the physically unable to perform list, said his surgically repaired knee caused him no problems Sunday in the Giants' 27-23 victory over the Redskins.

Canty said he was a bit frustrated at the end of the game because the team didn't want to overexert him after only three practices. As a result, Canty said, he played somewhere between 20 to 30 plays.

"That was what the plan was and they stuck to the plan," Canty said. "Believe me, against my own will, they stuck to the plan."

Canty practiced for the first time on Wednesday and the decision to have him play came Saturday. Canty said the coaching staff told him to prepare as if he was going to be in the game.

"My body feels great," Canty said. "Obviously they want to limit my play count because they want me to continue to feel good. But I feel great.

"To be honest, [the toughest part was] just getting back into my groove. I hadn’t hit anybody since the Super Bowl. I'm going out there and hitting people making sure I can tackle."
