Injury report: Nicks and Phillips rest

By Ohm Youngmisuk

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. –- Wide receiver Hakeem Nicks' knee is swollen again. And the Giants are going to rest safety Kenny Phillips through next week's bye.

Nicks and Phillips were among several Giants who missed practice Wednesday. The others: running back Ahmad Bradshaw (foot), linebacker Chase Blackburn (hamstring), defensive tackle Chris Canty (groin), right guard Chris Snee (ankle) and linebacker Jacquian Williams (knee).

Center David Baas (ankle/elbow), tight end Bear Pascoe (ankle) and linebacker Keith Rivers (calf) were limited.

Nicks battled through pain in his surgically repaired foot and had swelling in his knee earlier in the season but appeared to be getting healthier, as he wasn't on the injury report last week.

"We are going to rest him today," coach Tom Coughlin said Wednesday.

The Giants face the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday. Coughlin said the Giants plan to rest Phillips (knee) and hope to have him ready for the Green Bay game on Nov. 25.

Phillips practiced on a full basis last Wednesday and went through limited practices Thursday and Friday and said he was ready to return. But the Giants kept him inactive for Sunday’s game against Pittsburgh.

Coughlin said Phillips did not suffer a setback to his MCL, which he injured against Philadelphia on Sept. 30.

Snee tweaked his ankle against Pittsburgh early in the game but kept playing. It sounds as if he will be back in practice this week.

Coughlin said he hopes Bradshaw will practice once this week. Andre Brown (shoulder) was a full go today.
