Injury report: Tuck (back) misses practice

By Kieran Darcy

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Giants defensive end Justin Tuck missed practice Wednesday because of back pain, according to coach Tom Coughlin.

"He's got a tight back," Coughlin said. "They are just taking precautions."

The Giants' first preseason game is Saturday night in Pittsburgh. "We'll see," Coughlin said, when asked whether Tuck will play. "We expect that to be the case but, he will have to do a little bit of improving."

Offensive lineman James Brewer and safety Cooper Taylor also did not practice Wednesday. Brewer suffered a head injury Tuesday, and Taylor suffered a strained hamstring.

"They won't make it this week [against the Steelers]," Coughlin said.

Running back Ryan Torain missed practice Wednesday as well, after suffering a concussion on Tuesday.

Offensive lineman Justin Pugh (concussion) sat out again too, but rode an exercise bike and watched practice. "I hope he gets cleared this weekend for next week," Coughlin said.

Wide receiver Hakeem Nicks practiced for the second consecutive day, but again got limited reps. Guard Chris Snee practiced, although he didn't participate in 11-on-11 drills.

Defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul (back), full back Henry Hynoski (knee) and defensive tackle Markus Kuhn (knee) remain on the PUP list. Kuhn did some running on the sideline at the beginning of practice.
