Giants injury report: No setbacks

By Dan Graziano

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- No news is good news for the New York Giants on the injury front, and the lack of substantive updates Thursday on the recoveries of wide receiver Victor Cruz and defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul bode well for that pair's chances of playing in Sunday night's season opener against the Cowboys in Dallas.

Giants coach Tom Coughlin said that both Cruz, who is working his way back from a heel bruise suffered in the second week of the preseason, and Pierre-Paul, who is recovering from June back surgery, did more in practice Thursday than they'd done the day before. Cruz said earlier in the week that he expected to be able to play Sunday barring any sort of setback. Pierre-Paul and Coughlin have both said that Pierre-Paul's status for Sunday would depend on his conditioning and the way his back reacts to the increased workload as the week goes along. On both fronts, the news (or lack thereof) Thursday appears to have been encouraging.
