Victor Cruz expects to play Sunday
By Dan Graziano ESPN.com
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- This comes with my usual disclaimers about how New York Giants receiver Victor Cruz -- like all other NFL players -- is neither a doctor nor in charge of making out the lineup. But asked whether he expected to play Sunday against the Raiders in spite of sitting out Wednesday's practice with a neck injury, Cruz said yes.
"No concern," Cruz said Wednesday after the Giants finished practicing without him. "Just some precautionary stuff. The training staff just wanted me to take this one off and take another day to feel better."
Cruz injured his neck in the Giants' last game, Oct. 27 in Philadelphia, but returned to the game after a brief absence. He also went through a light practice with the rest of the team here Monday. But he said he woke up Tuesday with his neck feeling stiff, and the Giants' team trainers and doctors ran some tests on him Tuesday and decided he shouldn't practice Wednesday. Cruz said he believed he would do some practice work Thursday ("taking some reps, doing some third-down stuff and things like that") and that he's not worried about missing the game.
"No pain, very little discomfort," Cruz said. "In the morning it's a little stiff. I think once Sunday comes around, I'll be feeling good and good to go."
The other Giants who didn't practice Wednesday were running back David Wilson, who's already been ruled out for Sunday, cornerback Terrell Thomas, who got a regular "maintenance" day for his surgically repaired knee, and cornerback Corey Webster, who basically never practices anymore and plays limited snaps because of a lingering groin injury. Cornerback Jayron Hosley (hamstring), running back Brandon Jacobs (hamstring) and defensive tackle Shaun Rogers (knee) were listed as "limited."
Tight end Adrien Robinson, who's been out since preseason with a foot injury, was listed as a full practice participant and actually has a decent chance to suit up Sunday. More on that in my next post. Yeah, that's right. A tease.
