Giants injury update: Beckham still out

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- The New York Giants return to the practice field on Tuesday night for their third week of training camp, but they still won't have first-round pick Odell Beckham Jr. practicing with the rest of the offense. The rookie wide receiver hasn't practiced since July 22, when he injured his hamstring in the first practice of camp, and coach Tom Coughlin said Tuesday afternoon that Beckham still wasn't cleared to practice.

Beckham has been doing limited work by himself during Giants practices -- catching punts but not running with the ball and catching balls off a JUGS machine. But during team periods, he stands on the side and talks to coaches and teammates. There is no timetable for his return at this point. He also missed the team's June minicamp due to hamstring problems.

Also out of practice Tuesday will be defensive tackle Mike Patterson, who continues to nurse a shoulder injury, and return specialist Trindon Holliday, who has a hamstring injury. Defensive end Robert Ayers (ankle) will do individual drills to determine whether he's healthy enough to practice with the team.

Offensive tackle Will Beatty, who missed a couple of practices last week due to illness and skipped Sunday's preseason game because he's still not all the way back from a serious leg injury, is expected to practice Tuesday. The Giants have yet to determine whether Beatty will play in Saturday night's preseason game against the Steelers.

Cornerback Bennett Jackson remains sidelined with a significant ankle sprain that could keep him out of action for a very long time. No word on linebacker Spencer Paysinger, who missed all of last week with a concussion.
