Jacobs uncertain about his future
By Ohm Youngmisuk
Brandon Jacobs didn’t just shed some light on Plaxico Burress’ future on Thursday night.
He also talked about his own future as well.
While telling reporters that Burress has his eyes on the Eagles, Jacobs said his own uncertainty is a reason why he can’t try to talk his buddy Plaxico into a Giants reunion.
Jacobs is under contract for two more seasons at $4.65 million in 2011 and $4.9 million in 2012. But the Giants have to re-sign Ahmad Bradshaw, who could be an unrestricted or restricted free agent.
If Bradshaw is deemed an unrestricted free agent based on the new collective bargaining agreement, the Giants may have trouble paying Jacobs that kind of money to be the second running back.
“If I knew where I would be next year, if I knew for a fact that I would be around, no one knows anything now, I would be trying to talk him into it,” Jacobs said of trying to convince Burress to rejoin the Giants. “But can’t do that. The guy, he wants to explore his options.”
Jacobs, who was at Justin Tuck's celebrity billiards event for his R.U.S.H. for Literacy foundation, wants to remain with the Giants and he wants Bradshaw to return. But he is trying to be realistic about his situation as well.
But Jacobs isn’t worried about his role. He would just love to return to the Giants.
“With this lockout going on, you never know,” Jacobs said. “I want to be back but you never know what goes on. You never know what the salary cap (will be), what people want to pay certain people certain dollars to do certain things. I work hard and earn every dollar I make. I want to be around here and if not so be it.”
