Coughlin on D. Thomas: 'It'll be a while'
By Mike Mazzeo
As far as Devin Thomas and his dislocated finger are concerned, head coach Tom Coughlin says, “It’ll be a while.”
“It’s a bad spot for a receiver,” Coughlin said of the injury, in which the bone broke the skin.
For Thomas to return, the training staff has to confident there will be no infection.
“I’m sure it will be until the time when they feel like he’s not going to gain some kind of infection because of the taping, untaping, showering, all that,” Coughlin said. “So, let’s face it, it’s a bad spot for a receiver because there are an awful lot of things that Devin could be doing out there other than that. It’ll be a while, it’ll be a while.”
Thomas had been a candidate for the No. 3 wide receiver spot, but with him not being able to compete for that spot in training camp, that appears in jeopardy. Thomas had also been hampered by an ankle injury during camp as well.
Also on the injury front: Mario Manningham sat out of Saturday night’s practice with an ankle injury, but says it isn’t a concern and he’ll be back for Sunday night’s practice.
Coughlin said Manningham will likely be limited. Manningham said he suffered the injury earlier in the week during 11-on-11 drills when he came out of an in-cut.
“I just came down on it wrong,” Manningham said. “It isn’t anything big.”
Domenik Hixon (knee) will continue to skip every other practice, as per team orders.
Hixon says he could practice everyday, but has been overruled on that front. He still believes he can win the No. 3 wide receiver gig despite all the missed time.
