Herzlich wants to impress on special teams

By Ohm Youngmisuk

Rookie linebacker Mark Herzlich got his first taste of NFL football in the preseason opening loss to the Panthers.

Unofficially [the statistics in the stat book from the game were off in several areas and the Giants are waiting for Elias to update the stats], Herzlich had two tackles and a forced fumble as he played with the third-team and on special teams.

It was just the latest chapter in Herzlich’s amazing comeback from a rare form of bone cancer in his leg.

He hopes to make the squad via his special teams play.

“I think that is one area that I really need to impress people on,” Herzlich said. “I’m a very physical player, I need to be able to run down the field on kickoff and bust some people’s heads open and same thing on punt return. That is my goal right now, if I can make it on special teams, then I can make the team and that is all I am looking for right now.”
