Hixon not thinking about ACL
By Mike Mazzeo
Domenik Hixon returned to the field where his season ended before it began in 2010, but he didn’t play scared.
Hixon had a terrific five-yard touchdown catch late in the second quarter, and finished with two receptions for 13 yards in the Giants’ 41-13 victory over the Bears on Monday night at New Meadowlands Stadium.
“It meant a lot,” Hixon said. “It was a great feeling. I was just out there having fun. It was just awesome to be out there with those other 10 guys running around.”
Hixon said he wasn’t thinking about how he tore his ACL in the venue last season.
“You can’t think about that,” Hixon said. “I was just saying, the only time I think about it is when people ask me about it. I seem to get asked about it everyday, but then I forget about it.”
Hixon said he wasn’t upset about not playing the slot with the first team. Instead, that job went to Victor Cruz, who finished with three catches for 40 yards.
“It’s a competition,” said Hixon, who lined up with the second teamers and won a tremendous battle in the back of the end zone in order to snag the TD on a fade route from backup quarterback David Carr. “We’re out there everyday practicing. Coach made that move, but whenever I’m out on the field, I just try to take advantage of the opportunity and just have fun.”
