Grant will wear radio helmet, again

By Ian Begley

There was plenty of speculation last week over which Giants defensive player would wear the helmet with radio communication against Philadelphia.

Safety Deon Grant wound up wearing it against the Eagles, and will continue to wear it Monday night against the New Orleans Saints, according to defensive coordinator Perry Fewell.

Fewell said he chose Grant to wear the helmet because he is on the field for the majority of the defensive snaps. Grant is counted on to relay calls from the sideline to his teammates.

"He’s going to be on the field more because of the different packages that we run," Fewell said. "He’s on the field, being able to communicate more than our other linebackers. Based upon who the person that’s on the field the most, we can have the fluid line of communication with that person."

It is unclear if Boley will wear the helmet next week against Green Bay, if he returns.

Boley missed the Eagles game with a hamstring injury. He ran during Friday's practice but did not sound optimistic about playing Monday night against New Orleans.

"I don't want to put myself in a situation where I hurt the team or I hurt myself. I'd rather miss another week than miss a few more weeks," he said on Friday.
