Rolle: Giants will 'absolutely' make playoffs

By Mike Mazzeo

Will the Giants make the playoffs this season?

"Absolutely. Absolutely, man," Antrel Rolle replied during a radio interview Tuesday. "Let me tell you something: We're gonna fight. And you know what, everyone might be coming off the Giants' bandwagon, which is fine. We've only had us from the beginning anyway. We only need us in order to get where we need to get. If the fans want to be there, then be there.

"We will love you, we would love to have you, we will definitely appreciate you. But if you're not there, if you jump off the bandwagon, that's fine too," Rolle said on WFAN. "We're gonna play ball regardless. We're professional football players. We're the New York Football Giants. We are not going to go out without a fight. We are going to fight and that's it."

All right, so Rolle hasn't had the best track record when making guarantees.

"I don't think it, I know it," Rolle said last season prior to the Green Bay debacle -- a 45-17 loss -- when asked the same question.

That turned out well.

The Giants (6-5) were waxed on Monday night in New Orleans, and head into Sunday's matchup with the undefeated Packers (11-0) at MetLife Stadium riding a three-game losing streak.

At this point, another second-half collapse seems inevitable. It was certainly on the mind of Justin Tuck. He admitted as much.

But Rolle isn't willing to quit.

"I'm a fighter. I fought to the end last night and I'm going to fight to the end of the season no matter which road it takes," Rolle said. "We have to figure out at the end of the day, 'What's our purpose? What are we here for? Are we trying to be a playoff contending team or are we just going out there and going through the motions?'

"At the end of the day I play football for one reason and one reason only and that's to go to the playoffs each and every year. To go out there and try to be the best player I can be each and every game. And I'm sure my teammates feel the same way.

“But we're not showing that right now. We're not showing that as a team. And like I say, everyone within the Giants organization needs to get together, coaches and players, and figure out what is going on and how do we stop this bleeding at the end of the day. Because, I don't know, clearly there is something wrong."

In Monday night's 49-24 shellacking, the Giants' defense was gashed for 577 yards -- the second-most in team history -- while getting no takeaways or sacks.

It was the Giants' first game without a sack since Nov. 14, 2010, against Dallas. They had gotten at least one takeaway in each of their last 23 games -- an NFL-long streak.

Rolle says the key to turning things around is getting back to playing Giants football. ((

"We need to find a way to get back to that," Rolle said. "I don't know what it’s going to take, I don't know what has to happen, but we need to find a way to get back to that at the end of the day. That's who we are. That's when we play our best ball."
