A weekly examination of the Giants' ESPN.com Power Ranking:
Preseason: 12 | Last week: 29 | ESPN.com Power Ranking since 2002
The bye week did not alter the New York Giants' standing in our weekly Power Rankings, and they sit at No. 29 in the poll for the third week in a row. The only teams behind them -- the Vikings, Buccaneers and Jaguars -- are unanimously Nos. 30, 31 and 32. The Giants' ranking is not unanimous. John Clayton ranks them 26th, Jamison Hensley 27th, Ashley Fox and Mike Sando 28th, and Kevin Seifert and myself 29th. The basic point: They're not very good.
Personally, I continue to see no reason to rank them above anyone but those bottom three, and I tried very hard to keep all six bye-week teams in the same spots as last week.
The Giants get the No. 24 Raiders at home this week, and they get the No. 22 Redskins twice in December. But the rest of the schedule includes home games against the No. 11 Packers, the No. 13 Cowboys and the No. 4 Seahawks as well as road games against No. 10 Detroit and No. 15 San Diego. If they move up the chart, they'll have earned it.
Mike Sando, Jamison Hensley and I will be discussing the Power Rankings in a live “Spreecast” chat at 1:30 p.m. ET. Drop by and ask us a question.
