The Giants have signed former Arizona Cardinals defensive tackle Gabe Watson, after bringing him in for a workout on Tuesday.

Watson, 27, played five seasons with the Cardinals. He started all 16 games for the Cards in 2007, but hasn't started a game since. Last season, he had seven tackles in seven games played.

The Giants needed to add depth at defensive tackle, after Barry Cofield signed with the Washington Redskins, and the team parted ways with Rocky Bernard.

Besides Watson and 28-year-old Chris Canty, the Giants' depth chart at DT features second-year player Linval Joseph (who appeared in six games last season) and rookie Marvin Austin (who sat out the entire college football season at North Carolina under suspension).

The Giants also waived OL Herman Johnson and S Chad Jones was placed on the non-football injury list after he cleared waivers as expected.

Former Arizona Cardinals defensive tackle Gabe Watson is trying out for the Giants on Tuesday, according to the Arizona Republic.

Watson, 27, played five seasons with the Cardinals. He started all 16 games for the Cards in 2007, but hasn't started a game since. Last season, he had seven tackles in seven games played.

The Giants could certainly use some depth at defensive tackle, after Barry Cofield signed with the Washington Redskins, and the team parted ways with Rocky Bernard. Right now, Big Blue is counting on second-year DT Linval Joseph (who appeared in six games last season) and rookie Marvin Austin (who sat out the entire college football season at North Carolina under suspension).

The Giants' only veteran defensive tackle right now is 28-year-old Chris Canty.
