Giants plan to hire Odell Beckham Jr.'s college position coach

At least one of Ben McAdoo's first moves as New York Giants coach will make star wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. very happy.

A source confirmed Sunday morning that San Francisco 49ers wide receivers coach Adam Henry will join the Giants' coaching staff under McAdoo. The news was first reported by the website footballscoop.com.

Henry was the wide receivers coach at LSU from 2012 to 2014 and coached Beckham there during the 2012 and 2013 seasons. The two have remained close since Beckham arrived in the NFL, and with Beckham's continued development and success of paramount importance to the Giants, it's easy to see why they would add an assistant coach who's been his confidant and a big part of that development.

Beckham's Week 15 meltdown against the Carolina Panthers became a huge part of the story of the final few weeks of the Giants' season. The coaches' inability to get control of Beckham on the sideline, and Tom Coughlin's decision not to remove him from the game to let him cool down, drew significant criticism and came up again in McAdoo's introductory news conference as head coach Friday.

"I should have been better," McAdoo said. "I take full responsibility for that. Odell feels as bad as anybody about it, and it's my job to pull him out of that when we go down that road."

Nevertheless, it can't hurt to have as much help as possible.
