The Public Schools Athletic League’s Boro playoffs begin this week and will conclude Saturday. Let’s look at the brackets and how they break down.

BRONX AA
No. 1 Wings Academy (16-0 AA) vs. No. 8 South Bronx (16-3 A East)
No. 2 Eagle Academy (12-4 AA) vs. No. 7 Alfred E. Smith (16-3 A East)
No. 3 John F. Kennedy (10-6 AA) vs. No. 6 Christopher Columbus (18-1 A East)
No. 4 Samuel Gompers (9-7 AA) vs. No. 5 Frederick Douglass Academy III (19-0 B East)

QUEENS AA
No. 1 Cardozo (14-0 AA) vs. No. 8 HS for Construction (10-4 A East)
No. 2 Forest Hills (10-4 AA) vs. No. 7 Jamaica (10-3 A West)
No. 3 Bayside (9-5 AA) vs. No. 6 Queens HS for Teaching (10-4 A West)
No. 4 Campus Magnet (9-5 AA) vs. No. 5 Long Island City (13-0 Queens A West )

MANHATTAN AA
No. 1 Wadleigh (15-1) vs. No. 8 A. Phillip Randolph (11-5 A Northwest)
No. 2 Manhattan Center (10-6) vs. No. 7 Bayard Rustin (13-1 A Southwest)
No. 3 Thurgood Marshall Academy (5-11) vs. No. 6 Norman Thomas (14-1 A East)
No. 4 W. 50th St. (2-14) vs. No. 5 HS Graphic Communication Arts (15-1 A Northwest)

BROOKLYN AA
No. 1 Lincoln (13-1 AA) vs. No.8 Grand Street Campus (13-1 A West)
No. 2 Boys & Girls (11-3 AA) vs. No. 7 Acorn HS for Social Justice (11-3 A East)
No. 3 Thomas Jefferson (9-5) vs. No. 6 Midwood (12-1 A South)
No. 4 Paul Robeson (8-6 AA) vs. No. 5 South Shore (8-6 AA)

BEST BRACKET: Without a doubt, it has to be Brooklyn. It’s the only division that has five AA teams in it and the No. 5 seed South Shore has already beaten the No. 1 team in New York City Lincoln. The bracket possibly works out to feature great semifinals with South Shore vs. Lincoln and Jefferson vs. Boys & Girls. Midwood, the No. 6 seed, is also a sleeper pick and could give Jefferson quite a game in the first round.

WORST BRACKET: This is easily Manhattan. While the other brackets at least have every team with a winning conference record, the No. 2 and No. 3 seeds in Manhattan are well below .500. Wadleigh is clearly the best team in the Boro and should relatively cruise through this division as its only divisional loss was to Bronx powerhouse Wings Academy. There aren’t many matchups to watch in this bracket.

DOZO AND WINGS IN CHARGE: The other two divisions are the top seeds to lose. Both Wings Academy and Cardozo went undefeated in league play in the Bronx and Queens, respectively, and should win the Boros. Wings has been one of the most consistent teams in the city and could be a sleeper to upset one of the big boys come Tournament time. Cardozo is again one of the powerhouses in the city, but hasn’t faced as strong a schedule as the Brooklyn powers. We’ll see if it matters come tournament time.

PREDICTIONS:

BRONX: No. 1 Wings over No. 3 JFK: Wings, maybe the best team in the Bronx in both leagues, has been the best team in the Boro all season and should prevail. JFK has been playing its best ball as of late and should defeat No. 2 Samuel Gompers to reach the finals.

QUEENS: No. 1 Cardozo over No. 2 Forest Hills: Cardozo continues its undefeated run in Queens by winning the Boros playoffs. Forest Hills will defeat Bayside, who has faded since its fantastic start, in the semifinals.

MANHATTAN: No. 1 Wadleigh over No. 2 Manhattan Center. Wadleigh won’t see much competition and should roll to the Boros title. Manhattan Center will reach the finals since it won’t face much competition to get there.

BROOKLYN: No. 2 Boys & Girls over No. 1 Lincoln: In the third installment of this matchup, we see Boys & Girls downing Lincoln. We also think that Mike Taylor, who is PSAL eligible but hasn't played in the last two games after failing his first period class, will somehow get himself onto the court for this game. No matter who plays, though, this is the game of the weekend if the bracket works out.
