The Islanders have named Scott Pellerin as the head coach of the team's AHL affiliate Bridgeport Sound Tigers, the team announced in a release Wednesday.

Pellerin, 42, spent the last six seasons as an assistant coach for the AHL's Manchester Monarchs. The Shediac, N.B., native, who played with Islanders GM Garth Snow at the University of Maine, takes over from Brent Thompson.

Thompson, who was promoted earlier this summer to assistant head coach of the Islanders, led Bridgeport to a 41-26-9 record this past season.
