Tavares named NHL's first star

John Tavares has been named the NHL's first star for last week after a sensational seven-point run over the course of three games.

The highlight of Tavares' week was his fourth career hat trick, giving the Islanders a 5-1 win against the top-ranked Devils on Saturday at Nassau Coliseum.

Tavares, who has nine points in the past five games, is currently tied for sixth in the league in scoring with 20 points (11 goals, nine assists).

The Islanders host the Flyers on Monday for a Presidents Day matinee game at Nassau Coliseum.
