The Rangers halted the New York Islanders’ win streak in its tracks at the Garden Monday, stomping all over their rivals 7-2.

The Isles kept the game close before a fluttering shot from Matt Gilroy eluded Isles stopper Dwayne Roloson to give the Rangers the lead and break the spell Roloson had cast on NHL skaters since last week (three goals allowed in three wins). But like Frosty with out his magic lid, Roloson and the Isles began to melt down. A sharp-angled goal from Brian “Rocket Richard” Boyle upped the margin to 4-2 and seemed to crush the Islanders’ spirit as Jack Capuano’s team was outshot 34-8 over the final two periods.

The Rangers have now collected points in five of their last six games and sit sixth in the East, three points behind the Washington Capitals.
