Mark Giles, hockey editor of ESPN The Magazine, passed away on Jan. 14 of leukemia.

An avid sports fan, Mark was passionate about his loving family and treasured friendships. He considered himself fortunate for these relationships that nurtured and sustained him throughout his 56 years. Mark is survived by his adored wife of 28 years, Diane Kelley, sons Matt and Rob, sisters, Susie Ferruzza and Meg Giles Mercer, nieces, Kait and Kara, nephews, Randall and Danny, and many other loving relatives and friends, especially Bill Giles, Michael McGrann and Tom McGoldrick. Father, Henry, mother, Joan McCauley, and brother, Patrick, predeceased him. In his 34 years as a journalist at Money Magazine and ESPN The Magazine, Mark’s great talent as an editor was surpassed only by his humanity and wit.

Funeral Mass will be at St. Simon & Jude in Brooklyn on Jan. 22, 2011 at 1 p.m. A memorial service will be announced later. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Mark Hudson Giles Memorial Fund, 633 East Third St., Brooklyn, NY 11218.
