The Devils Monday extended qualifying offers to the following players:
Defensemen Matt Taormina, Matt Corrente, Mark Fraser and Maxim Noreau; forwards Vladimir Zharkov, Steve Zalewski, Alexander Vasyunov and Nathan Perkovich; and goaltender Jeff Frazee.
By extending the qualifying offer to those players, the Devils ensured they stayed restricted -- and cannot become unrestricted.
One player the Devils didn't extend the qualifying offer to was defenseman Anssi Salmela. Salmela, who had one goal and six assists in 48 games, will now become unrestricted. Had he had the qualifying offer, Salmela could've filed for salary arbitration.
According to the Newark Star-Ledger, "Zach Parise, a restricted free agent, did not have to be qualified because the Devils filed for salary arbitration with the left winger.
Parise cannot field offer sheets beginning Friday, when free agency opens at noon."
