Defenseman Adam Larsson suffered a charley horse in his left thigh during a Wednesday afternoon scrimmage at prospects camp, according to the Newark-Star Ledger.
Larsson, who was selected fourth overall by the Devils in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, played in the first two periods, but the team refused to let him play in the third.
“I played the first period and the whole second period, too. It wasn’t smart. Larsson told the Star-Ledger. “Pretend like I’m a tough guy. It didn’t work.”
Larsson told the newspaper his injury isn’t serious and he’ll “probably be back (Thursday).”
The Devils have until Friday to sign Larsson, otherwise he’d be ineligible to play in the NHL this season unless, the Star-Ledger reports, “the Devils paid his team in the Swedish Elite League $100,000 to extend the contract signing deadline to Aug. 15.”
