Although the Islanders expressed interest in unsigned free agent Sergei Samsonov earlier this off-season, the 32-year-old Russian winger does not appear to be headed to Long Island.
"We talked earlier this summer but it's been a while," Samsonov's agent, Neil Abbott, told ESPNNewYork.com when reached by phone Monday afternoon. "It seems to be dead."
Samsonov was among a list of players the Islanders the considered offering a training-camp invite, but Abbott said he is now in discussions with another team interested in his client's services.
Earlier this month, veteran Jay Pandolfo accepted a training camp invitation from the Islanders. The former Devils winger will be in Long Island when the team opens camp Saturday.
