The Rangers waived defensemen Wade Redden and Pavel Valentenko today.
Waiving Redden is merely a housekeeping issue for the Rangers; he must pass through waivers before being assigned to the team's AHL affiliate, Connecticut Whale.
Redden was waived and buried in the minors by the Rangers almost exactly one year ago. The 34-year-old veteran still has three years remaining on his six-year $39 million contract.
Valentenko was among the first group of players cut by the team last night; he also requires waivers before heading to Hartford.
