Sestito waived, likely faces suspension

Philadelphia Flyers' forward Tom Sestito was waived this afternoon, according to TSN's Bob McKenzie.

The physical center, who is expected to have a hearing on his 23rd birthday tomorrow with NHL disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan, is likely facing a hefty suspension for his illegal hit-from-behind on Rangers' forward Andre Deveaux.

The hit, at 7:52 of the first period of the Rangers' 5-3 loss to Philadelphia, earned him a five-minute boarding major and game misconduct.

"Shanny should have a field day," Rangers coach John Tortorella said after the game last night.

Deveaux, who was also waived this afternoon with fellow Rangers prospect Andreas Thuresson, said he was "bothered" by the hit.

"All I'm going to say is it was pretty dangerous," Deveaux said. "I was in a pretty defenseless position. I'm sure they're going to look at it."
