Rangers defenseman Marc Staal, who remains on injured reserve with post-concussion headaches, will not practice with the team this week.

"He won't be here," coach John Tortorella said after the team's first practice since returning from Europe.

Tortorella said Staal will continue to meet with doctors while the team practices for their next game Saturday against the Islanders.

"Marc continues to go through... his whole situation with his doctors," Tortorella said. "Last time I heard, he was feeling good. We just want him to continue to go to his doctors and thats what he's doing."

Staal has yet to practice fully with the team since training camp started and the possibility that he could miss significant time is looking increasingly likely.

"Whoever is out there practicing, we're preparing," Tortorella said. "Some day Marc comes in and he's there, we're going to prepare him the best we can to play a game. I'm not going to get into how long or how short. Each day, whichever players are out there, we're going to practice with them and try to be ready for the next game."

LW Wojtek Wolski (groin) and D Mike Sauer (shoulder) both did not practice Monday. Tortorella said the Rangers are taking precautions with both players and trying to be smart with their time off this week.
