Canada finalizes WJC roster

Hockey Canada 22-man roster has been finalized and two local teams' prospects made the cut.

Islanders' 2011 first-round draft pick Ryan Strome was one of 13 forwards selected.

New Jersey's Scott Wedgewood, a third-round pick in 2010, will fill the backup goaltender role behind Mark Visentin.

Rangers' prospect Christian Thomas was among the last group of candidates sent home Wednesday morning; the 19-year-old forward, selected in the second round of the 2011 draft (40th overall) has 13 goals and 14 assists in 21 games this season. for the Oshawa Generals of the Ontario Hockey League.

The 2012 World Juniors will be held in Calgary and Edmonton, Alberta. The Russian squad captured gold last year after scoring five third-period goals to erase a 3-0 deficit and upset Canada in the championship game.
