Backup goaltender Johan Hedberg will start tonight when the Capitals host the slumping Devils in D.C., according to the Newark Star-Ledger and The Bergen Record.

The 38-year-old netminder will make his first appearance since New Jersey's 4-3 OT loss to St. Louis February 9; Hedberg is 12-6-2 in 20 career starts against Washington.

Starter Martin Brodeur has made nine straight starts, but will receive a night off as the Devils conclude their back-to-back set against the Caps.

The Devils enter the match having dropped four straight, while the surging Capitals have rattled off three consecutive wins to climb within a point of the last playoff spot in the East.

Washington enters Friday's game one point behind the 8th place Winnipeg Jets with three games in hand. The Devils are currently in 7th place with 75 points.
