Islanders prospect Mike Halmo has been suspended indefinitely by the Ontario Hockey League pending further review of Saturday's hit on Nail Yakupov.

Both OHL commissioner David Branch and vice president Ted Baker told ESPNNewYork.com via email that they have no timetable established to make a decision on any supplementary discipline for the hit; they will continue to review the play until the situation is resolved.

Just hours after signing an entry-level contract with the Islanders, the undrafted, overage Halmo crushed Yakupov with a nasty hit that forced the talented young Russian from the game between the Owen Sound Attack and the Sarnia Sting.

Sarnia's Yakupov is projected to be the first overall pick in the 2012 NHL draft.
