Islanders prospect Mike Halmo was suspended for ten games for his hit last weekend on top-ranked North American skater Nail Yakupov, the Ontario Hockey League announced Friday.

Just hours after the undrafted, overage Owen Sound Attack captain signed an entry-level contract with the Islanders, Halmo crushed Yakupov with a hard hit that forced him from the game.

Yakupov is expected to miss the remainder of the regular season for the Sarnia Sting; he will undergo an evaluation before the OHL playoffs.
