Rangers coach John Tortorella professed the need for player evaluation in the weeks leading up to the 2012 Stanley Cup Playoffs and it appears the team feels rookie Tim Erixon still needs more time to develop in the American Hockey League.

Erixon was recalled earlier this month after 43 games with the team's minor-league affiliate in Hartford, but has since been returned to the Connecticut Whale.

The 20-year-old was sent back Thursday after his most recent five-game stint with the big club. Erixon recorded two assists during that span, but was subsequently scratched for the team's back-to-back set against Minnesota Tuesday and Winnipeg Wednesday. Anton Stralman replaced him in the lineup for both games.
