It was a fitting end for yet another abysmal season.
A 7-3 loss to the last-place Blue Jackets Saturday capped a disappointing 2011-12 campaign for New York, who will miss the playoffs for the fifth straight year.
By virtue of their 27th place finish, the Islanders will again be included in the lottery for the first overall pick in this June's NHL draft. They'll have a 10.7% chance at securing the No. 1 selection. Only Montreal, Edmonton and Columbus finished beneath New York in the league standings.
